Black Lacrosse Alliance

THE STATE OF THE LACROSSE ALLIANCE

Since the PLL Championship Series, The Professional players have been meeting weekly and working together to discuss actionable steps that we need to take and see occur in our sport and beyond.  As our Website is being built, we wanted to update the lacrosse community on where we have been, where we are right now, and where BLA is going.

We took a hard stance during the PLL championship series and set the stage for what BLA can do in regard to representation at the highest level of our game.  Additionally, we saw exactly what the MLL four was able to accomplish and have jointly come together as one.  This camaraderie at the professional level is critical and cannot be overlooked.  Since then, our top priority has been connecting with the BIPOC at the college level and building a network to assure they do not feel alone stepping back on each of their college campuses.

We have also received significant outreach from coaches at every level looking for guidance on how to take the moment we are in as a nation and bring tangible change to their locker rooms. We feel obligated to rise to this call and have spoken with numerous teams at every level and will continue to do so in the capacity. However, we know more needs to happen than just one-off conversations about our experiences as black players. We are now strategically building out programmatically what long-term change will look like for these programs and how coaches can implement positive cultural shifts with their teams.  Lastly, we have been working closely with USL on the marketing and implementation of the anti-harassment policy they have diligently built out to create an increased awareness and cultural shift at the youth and high school levels.

We have a long way to go, but the sincere effort we have seen within out community demonstrates there is a bright future in our sport.  We are excited to continue to grow and implement actionable change in the areas outlined below:
